Ben Gomori – DJ Profile

By R-Katz  //  DJ profiles  //  No Comments

Ben Gomori has been a recognised name on the London house and tech scene, both for his DJing and production/remixes, for several years now. He started his career as a resident at several of the biggest clubs in the capital including; Turnmills, The Cross, The Key, Pacha London and Egg. After being chosen as a We Love…Fresh Blood winner, he was asked to DJ a set at the infamous Space in Ibiza. He has also broken into the festival scene, playing at Global Gathering, Creamfields and Hungary’s Sziget Festival.

After introducing myself very briefly at the Fabric birthday a few weeks ago, I decided to get in contact and find out a little more about him. I asked him if he’d submit a recent set for people to get a taste for his DJing style and he suggested his recent set from last month’s Jaded, which you can find at http://soundcloud.com/bengomori/ben-gomori-jaded-cable-london-10th-october-2010. Ben summarised this as “2 hours of rolling tech house and deep techno”.

There is also a deeper side to Ben’s musical work, as you can hear with his new remix of Saytek’s ‘Lost In India’ - which can be found at http://soundcloud.com/bengomori/saytek-lost-in-india-ben-gomoris-lost-in-holloway-remix-cubism.

Ben’s style is a very comprehensive one. There is definitely a solid foundation of established sounding beats, and since he isn’t afraid to make use of the new and evolving technology in the electronic music world, his work also has a modern and adventurous feel to it.

I couldn’t resist asking him a few questions to find out a bit more about the man behind the music, so at the risk of pushing my luck a little bit, I sent him message which I was fortunate enough to get a reply to. Here were the questions and Ben’s responses:

1) Traktor or Serato?

“I use TRAKTOR and it’s very good -but I like the simplicity of Serato”

2) Favourite set of 2010?

“Eric Prydz at Pryda @ matter in April”

3) Most promising new artist?

“Jamie Woon – well he’s not that new but…”

4) Favourite festival?

“Worldwide Festival in France and Secret Garden Party in the UK”

5) Dream gig to play?

“A massive beach festival in Brazil”

6) Most recent purchase (record & equipment)?

“Rainer – I Like (Mancini Edit) // KRK Studio Headphones”

7) 1 item you couldn’t live without?

“My iMac”
